FUSE Soccer - Summer 2024 Orlando Recap

Posted by Matt Hicks on

The FUSE Soccer Experience returned to Orlando in July of 2024 - delivering another incredible week of summer soccer camps, fun in the sun and unique educational opportunity delivered by Arsenal Football Development coaches.

Players of all levels from all over the state of Florida flocked to Orlando to receive technical and tactical instruction from elite coaches as though they were training like the Arsenal academy at Hale End! The week provided young soccer lovers around the sunshine state an opportunity to develop new skills, improve their mentality and soccer IQ, as well as engaging in an elite training program from abroad that offers a different coaching perspective. The camp was also afforded plenty of Prime Hydration, the Arsenal affiliate that helped campers to remain safe and hydrated with electrolytes in the Florida summer heat.

Day 1 - Fundamentals

Campers were given their exclusive FUSE Arsenal Kits, looking and feeling professional like a true academy experience. The coaches introduced the players to fundamentals necessary to succeed in the modern game, giving them new drills and fresh perspectives on the basics as they evaluated players in order to get optimal groups for the remainder of the week. The first day was a good opportunity for Arsenal Football Development summer soccer campers to get familiar with each other and engage in a different style of training methodology designed to improve their games.

Day 2 - Passing and Receiving

Players were split into groups based on age and abilities allowing for optimal development. While passing and receiving may seem to be basic, the valuable and unique drills proposed by the Arsenal Football Development coaching staff challenged US players to expand how they thought about passing, receiving and movement. It was not so simple for the campers as they gained new insights on developing patterns of play and putting new drills into their repertoire that will allow them to develop in this category well beyond the end of the week’s summer soccer camp. The session ended with some high-pressure 1v1 drills that left everyone competitive, exhausted and hungry for more throughout the week!

Day 3 - Champions Mentality, Lifelong Learners

A critical aspect of what it takes to be a player at Arsenal, and often overlooked, is the mentality of a player. Technical skill and athleticism will only get you so far in the game, which is why Arsenal stress the importance of a strong mind. The will to better themselves, how to approach each session and drill, and the commitment to focusing on the details that will give them the edge over their opponents was the principal lessons. Obviously, tons of soccer was played also! The drills built on the first two days' sessions and players were not in their groove, understanding more and more how to get the most out of their sessions. Throughout this session uncommon to many players in the states, players were confronted to be brave and improve the mental fortitude used to create strong young gunners both on and off the pitch.

Day 4 - Shooting

Day four saw the campers get to bag tons of goals! The early session focus on technique was critical, but later the coaches provided drills that simulated structures of in-game replication by adding semi-opposed and fully-opposed pressure situations. The campers loved the day overall and ended with an amazing shooting game that ramped up the competitive spirit in the camp. The shooting was the focus, but the session as a whole forced players to utilize techniques and skills learned in previous sessions in the week.

Day 5 - Game Simulation and Fun Challenges

Always a camper favorite, the coaches showcased the fun side of training with the games and drills youth players most love to play at Arsenal’s Hale End development academy! From crossbar challenges to highly unique skill games, the players split into teams and competed all day to take home the prize of the day! Smiles galore is always the name of the game on Friday sessions as campers are eager to showcase their skill development.

Once the training was wrapped up, players all got their evaluation certificates and some personal advice on how to continue to develop their games from the Arsenal coaching staff. Ever a great time for some memorable photos, the campers of the week were also announced. Beckett and Hannah received signed Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka Arsenal Jerseys (WOW!!) alongside a selection of Arsenal pins and notebooks.

.

In summary:

This sort of soccer camp structure connects players of all levels interested in improving their training regimens and allows the youth interested in soccer a chance to learn from top coaches with international experience.

FUSE summer soccer camps are incredibly fun, unique experiences. It was obvious that the level of performance increased throughout the week. The quality of coaching, structure and development focuses allowed for great improvements in mentality and technical ability was evident.
