Nicolas Pepe completes move to Arsenal from Lille for club-record £72m

Posted by Dean Spaniol on

A record-breaking 72M deal was made with Lille to bring the pacy Ivorian winger to the Emirates, and not without competition from Champions-League winners Liverpool and other top clubs fighting for his signature.

Pepe saw Arsenal as the ideal place to make his mark in the EPL as he became the most expensive African player and Arsenal's most expensive signing in history. The strong 6’1 Ivorian has burning pace and played right wing despite being left-footed, which head coach Unai Emery likes. Pepe had a breakout year at Lille last season netting 21 goals and 11 assists, production only just under the League 1’s top performer in Kylian MBappe.

It’s an incredibly exciting signing for the Gunners who already had a potent attack. This signing ensures Asrenal’s front three will have plenty of opportunities and looks to be a star in the making.
