James Forrest Scores Hattrick to Land Scotland in European 2020 Playoff

Posted by Dean Spaniol on

Celtic playmaker and Scotland International James Forrest bagged himself three goals in the 3-2 win over Israel, leading Scotland to top Group 1 in League C of the United Nations League.

The tricky Hoops winger has been a mainstay for Celtic this past season and is full of confidence after scoring his first international goals for Scotland against Albania earlier this November.  Forrest has been lethal in front of goal this season with 12 goals in his last 11 games for club and country.

Forrest showed his class and composure to pounce on a loose ball in the box to score his first. A brilliant counter-attack led by Andy Robertson saw him drive home his second and a clinical touch from a Ryan Frasier pass allowed the hoops winger to power the ball into the net for his hattrick.

Alex McCleish's Scotland side needed a victory against a strong Israel side to go top of the group. Forrest's precise finishing landed Scotland in a prime position by winning Nations League promotion and cementing a playoff spot to vie for their place in 2020's European Championship.
