Marcus Alonso/Cesar Azpilicuelta (Chelsea, £6.5)
Okay, we know what you’re thinking. Picking two players is cheating. Well...get over it. The deadly Chelsea full back duo lit up the FPL scoreboard last year and will look to replicate their form under their new manager Sarri. Despite the hefty £6.5 price tags, rest assured these two will pull their weight on any competitive fantasy side.
Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City, £6.5)
Another CB with a large price tag, but the dangerous Argentinian center back can live up to as the rock in the back for the reigning premier league champions. A constant set-piece threat and a well-oiled defensive machine can mean goals and shut-out bonuses for Otamendi owners.
Harry Maguire (Everton, £5.5)
A set-piece killer and a strong world cup has led people to realize the value of Leicester City’s McGuire. Tipped for a potential move to Manchester United, Maguire can come off a strong season last year and promising World Cup campaign to provide a fair-priced centerpiece to your fantasy league defensive unit.
BARGAIN BUY: Charlie Daniels (Bournemouth, £4.5)
After a high-scoring FPL season in 2017 with five goals and six assists, defender Charlie Daniels looks to be a steal at just £4.5. The Cherries have a relatively favorable opening 10 fixtures playing just two of last season’s top six sides, the left back provides both a goal scoring threat and early clean sheet potential.
ONE TO WATCH: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool, £5)One of the highest scoring defenders in the second half of the 2017/18 FPL season, Alexander-Arnold can thrive under another year of backline discipline and Allison’s safe hands in goal. As long as he can keep his starting spot over the newly healthy Nathaniel Clyne, that is.
FINAL TIPS
Don’t be afraid to take a risk. Get them while their cheap and don’t shy away from new signings. After all - not many people had Salah captaining their side at the beginning of last season, eh?
